Everyone who owns a home knows how important Homeowners Insurance is. Homeowners Insurance is what lets homeowners sleep at night knowing that their most valuable possession, their home, is protected. If you are a new homeowner, or even a renter, there are some basic that you need to know about Homeowners Insurance.

When you purchase a Chicago Home Insurance standard policy, your house is insured against disasters and all of your belongings inside the house are protected as well. The types of disasters covered are clearly defined in your policy and flood and earthquake insurance are typically separate packages added on to the standard policy, and can be quite expensive.

Not only does Chicago Home Insurance protect your possessions, but protects the homeowner from liability as well. If any person should get injured on your property, you are covered. But did you know that your Homeowners Insurance might also protect any property damage your family may cause to other people?

When you purchase a home and take out a mortgage, the bank requires you to carry a home insurance policy that will cover at least the mortgaged you owe. Other properties like condos and town homes are slightly different in there coverage. In case of condo, the bank will require you to have coverage on your investment as well as liability coverage against some common areas of the building.

If you are a tenant of rental building, your landlord will have coverage for the property, but it does not protect your personal belongings, you might want to consider a Renter’s Insurance policy. The premiums on Renter’s policy can be inexpensive.

If you have a piece of expensive jewelry, such as a diamond ring, you will need a separate rider for that item. You will need to get an appraisal from a jeweler and submit it to the insurance company. This coverage will protect the value of your ring whether it is stolen from your home or lost elsewhere. If you are purchasing a home, you need to research Chicago Homeowners Insurance thoroughly and get the advise of a professional so that your home, your belongings, and your family are protected to the fullest.
