Leaving one\’s home for a long period of time is a worry to many people. For this reason they decide to utilize a program called, \”Let My House.\” There are many people looking to rent houses for an indefinite period and they would make perfect candidates as tenants. What is wanted is someone to occupy the home during the homeowner\’s absence with the understanding that when they return they will again occupy the house.

In letting one\’s home it is important that the person, who is going to be occupying it during your absence, be well-known or well-recommended. To allow someone in your home with your most precious possessions is to extend complete trust to that person so selecting reputable persons is very important. Of course, valuables should be packed and stored in a secure sight, but by letting the home with the major furnishings, many problems are resolved not only for you, but for the tenants as well.

People throughout the country, as well as overseas, are seeking vacation exchanges and are listed on the internet. These people usually have excellent references but, again, they should be checked out. Taking advantage of one of these exchanges allows one to visit a foreign country or other unvisited places and can save a great deal of money in lodging fees, meals, etc. For those to be gone a year or more, however, having an additional income while ensuring the safety of the property can serve to provide peace-of-mind while away.

A property manager is a must if one is going to be gone for quite some time for an extended vacation or work. This person can inform you if anything seems to be wrong or if some event, such as the other people suddenly moving out, occurs. Having the owner\’s phone number will allow immediate contact if necessary.

When deciding to let one\’s home it is a good idea to store any valuables that might be irreplaceable. It may be necessary to rent a storage unit or make arrangements to store these things at some other safe place. There is no guarantee that something important to the homeowner may not be accidentally broken. Worry about this possibility can spoil one\’s vacation or create additional unnecessary worry so it is best to eliminate this possibility by storing valuables before leaving.

It is important that one\’s absence be free from stress, therefore it is important to cover all contingencies prior to leaving. Things such as phone numbers where the owner may be reached, proper insurance coverage in case of fire or other catastrophe, someone who can check occasionally to make sure the occupants are all right and the property remains in tact, and any to handle any other possible event relating to the home that should be taken care of prior to the owner\’s return.

The use of the utilities is also a matter which must be considered. If the homeowner is going to assume this cost then the estimated price of the let must be included. If the user is to pay for utilities during occupancy then they need to be appraised of expected costs. The responsibility of both parties must be spelled out so there is no misunderstanding. With these contingencies in mind it is important that agreements be written down so there is no question as to who is responsible for what.

When a person posts an ad or asks someone to help \”Let my house\” it involves careful thought and planning. Misunderstandings often results when things are not spelled out right at the start. Who is responsible to keep up the yard is one item that is often overlooked. Perhaps the homeowner might want to arrange for a gardener to keep it looking nice during their absence. Are the new residents responsible for repairing any damage that occurs? These understandings are essential in promoting a harmonious relationship. After finding the right parties to take care of the home the owners can go on their way without worrying about possible mishaps and can feel certain that, upon their return, they will find their property in the same condition as when they left.
