Have you outgrown your home or apartment and just don’t have anymore room to store things? You’re not alone. Hundreds of thousands of people have faced the same dilemma and have chosen self-storage as the solution to their problem.
Consumers now have a wide choice of storage facilities in order to meet their need, and most providers are willing to compete for your business.
Self storage is a private and secure space that you rent on a monthly basis in order to keep items you don’t want to – or can’t – keep at your home. Some are like mini-garages, others even provide temperature and humidity control.
Most storage facilities offer different sized units ranging from fairly small (5′ by 5′) to fairly large (10′ by 30′). This means you can rent just the space you actually need. And if you need more space over time, you can move to a larger unit or add additional units.
The basic term for self storage rental is one month, and most rental contracts stipulate that the term will renew automatically each month unless the management receives notice otherwise. Most facilities offer discount rates if you want to rent two or more units, or if you agree to pay your rent up front for at least six months.
You can pay for your self storage unit with cash, check or credit card, although many facilities prefer to set up automatic monthly payments. You pay ahead, so once your payment has been made, you are entitled to use your space for 30 days.
Self-storage puts you in control of how you use the space you rent. You’re the one who moves items in and out of the unit, unless you hire movers to do it for you. Otherwise, though, it’s the same as a storage room in your house, only it’s offsite. You are the only one with access to the unit. During the rental period, you can access the space 24/7 without any additional charges.
Most Columbus storage facilities have tall steel wire fencing encircling their perimeters. Access to the compound is obtained by entering a main gate that opens only once you’ve punched in a private security code. The gate closes after you. Most facilities also have flood lights at night and security cameras 24/7.
Your storage unit is yours alone: you don’t share it with anyone else, and you are the only person with access to it. The storage building that contains your room will most likely have a concrete apron or paved drive way surrounding it. This helps to keep everything clean as you drive up to your unit to drop off or pick up something.
There are many reasons to rent self storage units. Perhaps your parents are coming to live with you and are not ready to let go of their furniture yet. Maybe your garage it too small and can’t store both winter equipment (a snow blower, log splitter, etc.) and summer equipment (riding mower, tiller, etc.) It could be that your children have moved out of the house, but aren’t ready yet to take all their possessions with them. Self storage is a savvy move for many reasons.
Self storage facilities are located throughout Columbus, so it’s likely that one or more of them are located near your home or apartment. Renting a storage unit nearby is safe and convenient, and it’s the next best thing to owning a second garage.
