The day has arrived. You have a good job, savings in the bank and you’re on a solid financial foundation. It’s time to start looking for a new house. Read about these ideas for finding your perfect home and follow them closely. You’ll be glad you did.
There is one aspect about searching for your perfect home that few people ever consider. How are the relationships in your family, and how are you and your wife getting along? If there are major problems in your home life, you will never be able to find a perfect home. There is a big difference between a perfect house and a perfect home. Even if you find a house that seems to be perfect, the only thing that can make it a perfect home is the people that will live inside. Find a family and marriage counselor, and ask them to help you get your problems straightened out.
Sit down with your family and talk about the type of house you would like to have, the things the house needs to have and the things you would like it to have, but could live without. Children will be more inclined to think about colors and whether or not it has a swimming pool or swing set. Don’t discourage them, and let them feel like they have made an important contribution to the discussion.
Figure out the area you would like to live in. Determine how far away from your present location you can move. Consider the towns, cities, suburbs, neighborhoods and rural areas included within the distance you have chosen. Decide what type of area you want to look for: city, small town, or rural.
Check on the availability of schools, cultural opportunities and health services in the different areas. Look at the crime rate and the different types of crimes that are popular in that neighborhood or suburb. Be sure to check how many sex predators and offenders make their home in that part of the state.
Choose your price range, and start hunting for properties in the areas you are looking at. The free real estate booklets, internet and newspaper ads are good places to start. Call several real estate agents, and tell them what you are doing and what you need. Choose the one that shows a real interest in helping you and that is willing to make themselves available.
Do your own research before you actually get together with a real estate agent. A good idea is to put all of the information you gather about the town, suburb or neighborhood in a large notebook, separated by tabs. Include listings of the homes you are interested in and would like to see. If you don’t care for the properties the agent has chosen, or if you prefer to look at the homes you have chosen first, show your notebook to the agent.
List your preferences, do your research and find a real estate agent that is willing to work with you and help you in whatever you want him to do. By following these tips for finding your perfect home, it won’t be long until you can move in and start enjoying your new home.
