Super hurricanes, protracted drought and other weird weather conditions occur regularly which our ancestors haven\’t experienced in their lifetime. We all know that this extreme climate change is a result of global warming. Global warming adversely affects the biodiversity of all living things, melts the polar caps and increases the water content of our oceans and streams. So, we see islands disappearing from the face of the earth and the extinction of flora and fauna. The culprit is the burning of fossil fuels that release greenhouse gases. These gases – carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide – snugly encase the earth trapping heat within. We\’ve heard it a long time ago but hadn\’t taken action.
According to Greenhouse Gas Online, in the US and much of the developed world, 30 percent of carbon dioxide emissions are due to transportation. One third of these emissions are from diesel engines – buses, delivery trucks and semi-trailer trucks.
In 1936, when the trucking industry begun its operations shipping agricultural products from farms to cities, diesel fuel emitted fumes of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, visible as the obnoxious dirty soot. Greenhouse Gas Online says that for the past 100 years there had been a rapid accumulation of man-made greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This started the cycle of global warming. Clearly, transportation takes most of the blame.
The inventor of the prototype diesel initially utilized vegetable oil as fuel for his invention. Rudolf Diesel then knew that the popular fuel would be a refined chemical derived from gasoline. Despite this, he was hopeful that vegetable oil would find its useful place as the main source of fuel for his engines. Bio-diesels gradually became an alternative fuel source in the 1920 and the 30\’s in some European countries.
Utilizing bio-diesels have a lot of ecological advantages- ecologically and economically. The bio-diesels are derived from vegetable or animal oils. The vegetable oils come from rapeseed or soy or even oils from restaurants. Interestingly, these garbage oils used to fry your French fries can be collected, processed and used directly on your diesel engine. A nice way to a healthy environment, no soot nor greenhouse gas is produced. Bio-diesel isn\’t only recyclable but is biodegradable too.
Using bio-diesel in trucks won\’t emit carbon dioxide. A research in 2000 conducted by Wang and Lyons of the University of West Virginia compared the emissions of trucks on petroleum diesels and bio-diesels. The study showed that using bio-diesel in trucks has lower particulate matter emissions as well as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions as compared to trucks on petroleum diesel.
One gallon of gasoline utilized by a diesel engine releases 20 pounds of carbon dioxide. Now, if a trucking company uses 12,000 gallons a year of petrol diesel that would amount to 240,000 pounds of heat-trapping carbon dioxide released in the earth\’s atmosphere. Supposing all trucking companies world wide decide to use bio-diesels, we\’ll expect a much lesser carbon dioxide emission and then slows the process of global warming. Isn\’t that something?
Traveling the highways, trucks on petrol diesel spew out noxious fumes threatening the health of people all around. These fumes contain aromatic carcinogens that increase people\’s risk of developing lung cancer over time. Moreover, bio-diesels reduce the incidence of acid rain since, they don\’t contain any sulfur. And because a truck on bio-diesel moves silently, they are sweet on the ears too.
There are claims that trucks on bio-diesel aren\’t fast enough. But, studies show bio-diesel on their engines doesn\’t make them slower and inefficient. These studies show no significant increase or decrease in fuel mileages when these trucks do their necessary errands of transporting food, people and furniture anywhere. What\’s more, bio-diesels naturally protect the engines and save money on maintenance.
Convinced that the best way to a healthier earth, several trucking companies run exclusively on bio-diesels. The fleet of trucks of Serenity Movers is fueled by bio-diesels and travels 55,000 miles per year transporting furniture efficiently, safely, sweetly and serenely.
If all trucking companies use bio-diesel as the best option we\’ll see a world with lesser catastrophic hurricanes and other drastic climate changes. Global warming somehow will halt. We\’ll make the world a more sustainable place for our children and for future generations. Economically, we\’ll stop depending on gasoline and be free from the dictates of oil rich nations. We\’ll save money and enjoy our life too. And our farmers will get a better share from the switch.
If we want this kind of renewable and healthier world, let\’s take action. Let\’s choose trucking services running exclusively on bio-diesels.
